Virus and Malware Protection Provider AVG to Close LiveKive Cloud Storage Service
Virus and malware protection provider AVG is to close the LiveKive cloud storage service it initiated in April 2011. The move comes only a few weeks after the company decided to close the Crossloop remote access service it purchased in 2012. CrossLoop allowed users to share computer screens and collaborate with others over the Internet. No indication was given as to why the company had closed the service. LiveKive offered unlimited storage for $80 per year, but the company found it difficult to make the service profitable in light of competition from major providers such as DropBox. News of the service’s closure appeared on AVG’s forums were it was simply suggested, “AVG LiveKive will soon be discontinued.” The company will stop customers from uploading new data from April 1st, 2014. The company will then give customers 90 days in which to download data. Customer accounts will be closed August 18, 2014. It seems as though a lot of online storage services are meeting the same fate. Your thoughts please - add your comments below. Comment News
