Open Source Privacy and Security Software Provider Disconnect Launches Latest Software Version
Open Source (OS) privacy and security software provider Disconnect has launched the latest version of its cloud-based online protection software. The software offers “real-time protection from hackers and trackers, who are increasingly able to access users' identities and sensitive personal information”. It also blocks a range of threats including 'malvertising' and mobile 'supercookies'. Established in 2011 by ex-Google engineers, Disconnect’s software offers a range of features including visualized tracking and encrypted Internet which redirects traffic through the company’s “encrypted tunnel” to secure connections and avoid “eavesdropping”. In addition, the software blocks over 5000 malicious trackers to ensure web browsing is safe. It also offers anonymous search, location control that blocks your location and IP address, and provides a visual indication of how data is collected and used. An Android version of Disconnect's anti-malvertising application is no longer available because Google removed it from the Play Store last year because it blocks some Google adverts. An Android app is though available from Disconnect's website and its app is pre-installed on Blackphone – the world's “leading private and secure smartphone”. “The technology powering our new software allows us to protect users from more threats than ever before,” explained Patrick Jackson, the CTO of Disconnect. “Moving our logic to the cloud means we can adapt in real-time to counter new attacks, and simultaneously offer this protection across all the major platforms and devices.” Do you know of any other cloud-based online protection software worthy of note?
