Open Cloud Provider Rackspace to Launch Startup Program in 2013
Open cloud provider Rackspace will launch the “Rackspace Startup Program” in the United Kingdom in 2013. The program, designed to help boost the British economy, was announced at ‘Boost Your Start-Up’, an event held in London’s Tech City which promotes opportunities for British start-ups who wish to do business in United States. It will provide thousands of British start-up operations with cloud computing support in an extension of a program which previously ran in Australia and the United States. In the US alone, Rackspace and around 100 partners - including accelerators, incubators, venture capitalists and universities - provided support to over 850 startup operations. The program will see Rackspace work a number of incubators and accelerators (including DreamStake and Springboard) who recognize the benefits cloud hosting offers new businesses - nominal upfront investment and an elastic IT service delivery model alongside unmatched potential to scale services as business growth requires. “Cloud computing services are built around the principles of not only flexibility and scalability but automation and self-service too as we serve customers’ needs from our local datacentres with additional service layers all backed up by our world-renowned Fanatical Support,” explained Rackspace Managing Director, International, Taylor Rhodes. “Bringing the power of our continuously available cloud services to the dynamic world of startup business is, to be quite honest, really exciting. I can’t wait to see what happens next.” Rackspace started in 1998 with only 10 employees and itself benefitted from entrepreneurial support in its formative years. Since then it has blossomed into an organization with around 4,500 employees. As part of its program Rackspace will offer one lucky start-up team the opportunity to visit the company’s San Antonio, Texas operation and receive mentoring from Rackspace Founder and Chairman, Mr. Graham Weston. Winners will also receive £3,000 ($4,700) in Rackspace Cloud Hosting. To win, start-up teams must create a video that pitches a start-up idea based around the use of cloud computing. Comment News
