Network Connectivity Provider Rogers Communications to Acquire Pivot Data Centers and Granite Networks
Network connectivity provider Rogers Communications has announced it is to acquire Pivot Data Centers and Granite Networks at a cost of $155 million and $6.25 million respectively. The companies generate a combined annual income of around $30 million and Rogers Communications' move comes on the heels of its acquisition of BLACKIRON Data earlier in 2013. A Canadian communications and media company, Rogers Communications is Canada's largest wireless voice and data communications services provider. Its services also include cable television, high-speed Internet and telephony. Pivot Data Centers provides colocation services and operates three facilities in Calgary and Edmonton. The combined capacity of its facilities totals 130,000 square feet. The company caters to around 100 customers including businesses and government agencies. Ottawa, Ontario-based Granite Networks provides collocation, managed services and cloud hosting services to enterprises and government agencies in Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec. With its purchase of the two companies Rogers Communications has become a leading player in the data center and hosting services arena. The services provided by the two companies will spur Rogers Communications' growth and enable BLACKIRON Data to operate Tier III standard data centers in Ottawa, Toronto, Edmonton and Calgary. "The addition of two high quality and growing data centre operations will enable Rogers Business Solutions to expand the availability of its reliable, and leading-edge data services,” explained BLACKIRON Data's President AJ Byers. “Both organizations will enhance Rogers Business Solutions BLACKIRON Data offering as customers in key markets will now have access to expanded data capacity, managed and cloud service offerings."
