Leading British University Migrates to Cloud-based Solution for Student Email
Durham University, one of the United Kingdom's leading educational institutions, has migrated to a cloud-based solution to manage its 16,000+ student and employee email accounts. The company has adopted Microsoft's Office 365 and migration to the new solution took around six weeks to accomplish. At present Durham University restricts student usage to email and calendar, but is considering the implementation of SharePoint and Lync. Office 365 replaces the university's previous email option, Microsoft Exchange 2003. Utilizing this solution, students were restricted to only using Outlook Web Access (OWA), while the university's IT department was responsible for managing accounts. Run entirely in the cloud, Office 365 removes the university's account management burden. Around 70% of British universities take advantage of a Microsoft framework designed to enable higher education institutions to leverage its cloud solutions such as Office 365.
