IBM Cloud Company SoftLayer Announces OpenPOWER Cloud Servers Launch
IBM cloud company SoftLayer has announced the launch of OpenPOWER cloud servers. Softlayer, which was purchased by IBM in June 2013, offers a range of services including "Bare Metal" cloud and virtual servers, storage solutions (including mass storage servers and backup) and Content Delivery Network solutions. SoftLayer's OpenPOWER-based servers leverage IBM’s POWER8 chip architecture. They are a component of the company's bare-metal cloud range of products and services and will be available from June 2015 onwards. The system was designed in conjunction with members of the OpenPOWER Foundation. OpenPOWER focuses on cloud-based big data and IBM has been involved in a series of OpenPOWER-based initiatives on the last months. Established in 2013, the OpenPOWER Foundation enables data centers to "rethink their approach to technology" through customizing POWER CPU processors and system platforms as a means for the "optimization and innovation for their business needs". The First Annual OpenPOWER Summit takes place March 17-19, 2015 at the San Jose Convention Center. The event will be part of the GPU Technology Conference (GTC) and will include keynote speakers from the OpenPOWER Foundation. What do you think about OpenPOWER? Add your comments below. Comment News
