Google Acquires Cloud-based Polling Services Provider Polar
Google has acquired cloud-based polling services provider Polar with the aim of enhancing the mobile capability of Google+. According to Google, Polar will help the corporation enhance the Google+ mobile experience, especially the platform's usability. Polar was established in 2012 by Luke Wroblewski and Jeff Cole. The company will cease its online polling business at the end of 2014. According to the company, since its inception, "one in every 449 Internet users" has used its services to express an opinion. By its own figures, the company has 1.1 million active voters and has managed nearly 500,000 polls for its users this year. "If you voted on a Polar poll, downloaded our app, our embedded us in your site, we learned from you," explained Wroblewski on his personal website. "Personally, I learned more than I could imagine from the Polar team, our partners, and investors. I can’t imagine a better gift than knowledge, so I’m grateful to all of you". Polar will publish a number of articles as a PDF book covering mobile and multi-device design, which were written by Wroblewski. "Each version is filled with nuanced user interface design details and big-picture thinking on mobile and multi-device design for PCs, tablets, TVs, and beyond. It's our hope that some of our experiences, insights, and missteps, will ultimately help you with the product journey you're on now or will be in the future," wrote Wroblewski, again on his personal site.
