Data Center Company Equinix Announces Second Data Center in Seattle
Data center company Equinix, Inc. has announced the opening of a second International Business Exchange™ (IBX®) data center in the Seattle metro area. The move is a response to growing demand for services from cloud, network and digital media/content providers. Known as SE3 (or SE3IBX), the data center is located adjacent to the company's SE2 data center. SE3 extends Equinix’s footprint in the Seattle market by adding an equivalent of 1,000 cabinets in a data center space of around 51,000 square feet. The center provides direct connection to the Seattle Internet Exchange (SIX) and offers round-the-clock operations. Some of the features of the purpose-built center include a freight elevator and a dedicated loading dock. SE3 will enable customers to identify potential customers from the Equinix Marketplace and offer access to Equinix partners who offer services inside the company's data centers. The center will also enable customers to extend their presence into the Northwestern United States and Western Canada. "The Seattle market is an important communications hub for the Pacific Northwest and a distribution point for IP traffic to Asia Pacific," explained Equinix's President of the Americas, Charles Meyers. "With SE3, we can offer the many cloud, network and digital content companies in Seattle the ability to directly connect with their customers and partners in order to improve application performance and generate new revenue opportunities."
