Avere Systems Study Suggests Cost Savings and Disaster Recovery Drive Cloud Adoption
A study by Pittsburgh-based enterprise storage provider for cloud enabled data centers Avere Systems has suggested that cost savings and disaster recovery concerns are driving cloud adoption. The study, conducted at AWS re:Invent 2013, which took place in Las Vegas, took in event attendees and indicated that the bulk of those present either currently use the cloud for "compute, storage, or application purposes", or plan to do so within "the next two to five years". Backed by Lightspeed Venture Partners, Menlo Ventures, Norwest Venture Partners and Tenaya Capital, Avere offers a range of solutions that stabilize cloud costs and reduce the complexity of data storage. Avere customers can store files in the cloud or on their premises "without sacrificing the performance, availability or security of their data". The company's survey took in a total of 95 respondents who answered questions about cloud adoption and cloud storage. While those surveyed suggested performance and security were chief concerns that could prevent cloud adoption, addressing cost savings and disaster recovery were of primary concern. About 30% of those present suggested their current providers could not help them migrate to cloud storage because they offered more "traditional on-premises storage equipment". Other influencing factors were the potential of cloud storage for increasing efficiency and productivity. “Avere has prided itself with consistently bringing solutions to market that allow customers to leverage a variety of storage – including cloud – without sacrificing performance, availability or security of data,” explained the company's vice president of marketing, Rebecca Thompson. “However, there are still people and process challenges that impede cloud adoption, as legacy storage vendors – with no suitable solutions – have driven fear, uncertainty and doubt in the minds of customers. It’s incumbent upon emerging market leaders like Avere and our ecosystem of partners to educate end-users on the myths and fallacies of cloud use and streamline the transition so companies are able to fully see the capital and operational benefits of this new shift in storage and compute.” Do you know the results of any other industry surveys?
